Whistleblower Nancy Olivieri tells the story of the Gideon Koren scandal, in The Star. How Koren’s research fraud with his drug consulting Motherisk had mothers lose their children forever because of fake cocaine use charges, how Olivieri herself was slandered by Koren, and how her University of Toronto and Sick Kids Hospital conspired to protect Koren and to punish her. Koren escaped responsibility and returned to Israel (read here) where he is now professor of medicine at the settlers’ Ariel University (which is led by a vaccine denialist and a CV cheater). Not just academia sponsored to protect an abusive fraudster, as Olivieri writes:
“With a few honourable exceptions, including the Star, little moral outrage arose: Canada’s “national newspaper” reported that Koren was “irreplaceable.””
Olivieri’s contribution was prompted by a bigger feature story at The Star last month about one of Koren’s victims:
“For nearly 23 years, [Joyce] Hayman has carried the weight of a conviction for a shocking crime she always insisted she didn’t commit. That burden was lifted on Monday, when the Ontario Court of Appeal quashed Hayman’s conviction for feeding her young son cocaine and entered an acquittal. […]
The court found that Hayman’s conviction was “rooted in the now discredited work” of the former Motherisk drug testing lab at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, Fairburn said. If not for the lab’s flawed hair tests, which purported to show Hayman’s son had repeatedly ingested cocaine, she “would not have been found guilty.””
Angotti of Death
You might recall my article about the hair loss drug proxalutamide repurposed to treat COVID-19 in Brazil based on fake clinical data. Reuters reports about the Brazilian dark eminence who is behind such quack cures: Helio Angotti, described as “a little-known Health Ministry official” appointed as unofficial COVID-19 czar by Brazil’s fascist leader, Jair Bolsonaro. Angotti and Bolsonaro are both followers of “the esoteric Brazilian philosopher Olavo de Carvalho, who promotes false conspiracy theories including a claim that Pepsi used the cells of aborted fetuses as sweetener“.
Angotti’s task seems to be to cause maximal chaos and carnage by spreading covidiot denialism against vaccines, lockdowns, face masks and in support of quack cures. He is currently under federal investigation in Amazonas state for administrative misconduct “for pushing health workers there to prescribe hydroxychloroquine“.
So this is how Angotti got Bolsonarro to tout proxalutamide:
“By November of last year, Angotti had hired and assigned three consultants to find evidence to support Bolsonaro’s medical claims, according to a Nov. 19 memo Angotti wrote. The memo, reviewed by Reuters, hasn’t been previously reported. Among the consultants were Ricardo Zimerman… […]
As Angotti’s team chased evidence for unproven treatments, the P1 variant exploded in Manaus, accounting for three-quarters of the city’s cases by the end of January, according to a study by Fiocruz, a federally funded biomedical institute. The city’s hospitals quickly ran out of oxygen; the variant soon spread across Brazil.
The Health Ministry sent at least 120,000 hydroxychloroquine pills to Amazonas state and flew 12 medical professionals to the city of Manaus to push healthcare workers to use anti-malarials. Zimerman, De Souza and Costa were in the group […] Amid the chaos in Manaus, one of Angotti’s consultants, Zimerman, joined with other researchers to launch the study of Proxalutamide, the drug Bolsonaro and Angotti would later tout on the social media video.”
In this regard, please read the comment by Jose Galucci-Neto here, about the criminal app AndroCov (latterly renamed as TrateCov) which automatically prescribed hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin to everyone, including children. The proxalutamide PI Flavio Cadegiani was behind that app, too. When exposed, the Brazilian health minister lied that the app was hacked and removed it.
“The Hong Kong-listed company’s stock price has nearly quadrupled since March 1 as some analysts wrote about the big sales potential for a COVID-19 treatment. Kintor has seen its market capitalization soar to HK$23.4 billion ($3 billion) from HK$6.6 billion on March 1. [..]
Kintor is in talks with Brazilian federal health regulator Anvisa about conducting its own clinical trial. Anvisa said in a statement that Kintor had not filed any formal request to conduct a trial, but did not comment on any talks between the regulator and the company.
Two Anvisa staffers, speaking on condition of anonymity, questioned the results of the Brazilian Proxalutamide study, saying the authors’ results presentation contained no detailed data or evidence. One of the Anvisa staffers characterized the presentation as more marketing than science.”
Haven’t heard of these gods in white in ages, right? Well, here they are, Martin Elliott, Paolo De Coppi and other UCL friends, with a telling absence of Martin Birchall, with an opinion paper in Frontiers:
Martin J. Elliott, Derek Roebuck, Nagarajan Muthialu, Richard Hewitt, Colin Wallis, Paolo DeCoppi, Denise Macintyre and Clare Ann McLaren Teamwork in Airway Surgery Front. Pediatr., (2021) doi: 10.3389/fped.2021.621449
Same authors previously warned a Jewish MP that I was a “malicious” German “racist” who was “found guilty of libel against other researchers in German courts on several occasions“, without saying it was their own past collaborators in trachea transplanting.
In the new Frontiers paper, these former partners of Paolo Macchiarini (who is never mentioned once!) celebrate themselves and the technology of cadaveric decellurised trachea transplants:
“In our own team two developments over the last decade have driven the need for change. The first has been the development of tracheal transplantation in various forms (23, 24) and the increased incidence of button battery injury (25). For the first, we needed to involve a wide range of scientists, adult research teams and international contacts. They worked at multiple institutions but were able to join our MDTs and research meetings thanks to video conferencing. Not only was this necessary to manage the individual patients, but it added skills we lacked, and which have subsequently become integral. Notably, the integration of clinicians caring for adults helped us better to plan the transition of care from pediatric to adult practice and ensurethe lifelong follow up necessary to determine the value of any intervention (26).”
All that foggy talk about obscure multidisciplinary teams (“MDTs”) and “international contacts” refers to Macchiarini and Birchall, while both were even purged from the paper’s reference section. And as for “care”, adult or paediatric: almost all trachea trachea patients died (list here). Elliott’s and De Coppi’s child patient Shawna was sent away to Leeds right after the operation so she won’t die at the UCL and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) premises, afterwards the surgeons kept claiming to have extended her life (read here). Now, Elliott et al promise that “All outcomes would be published“. Apparently except that 3yo child, a victim of button battery injury whom they operated with a decellurised trachea transplant in 2017 (read here) and whose case remains everything but published.
That child, whether she lives or not, and Shawna, and others who died: they are never spoken about anymore. Oh wait, here is GOSH in 2018 claiming they all are well and alive, while inviting others to join them:
“GOSH has already started using similar tissue products in children. GOSH has already done three successful stem-cell trachea transplants. GOSH was the first children’s hospital in the world to do so and remains the only children’s hospital to do this work.”
The lone survivor Ciaran is still being paraded as a success story to recruit funders and clients (see page 37-38 here). Even now, De Coppi is praising his trachea transplant technology for the Emirates franchise of GOSH:
“a trachea or oesophagus that is made from stem cells and grows with the child is a much better and kinder option for the child.“
Hattip and most of investigation: Patricia Murray
Congratulations to my Ukrainian compatriot, Igor Sukhotnik, Head of Paediatric Surgery at the Tel Aviv University in Israel, previously associate professor at the Technion Institute of Technology, on his first retraction. May there be more of the kind, his PubPeer record stands at almost FORTY papers, all with seriously unpleasant data irregularities and hidden conflicts of interest (here reporting by Elisabeth Bik). This is Professor Sukhotnik’s first ever retraction, for an 18 year old paper no less:
Sukhotnik et al Effect of bowel resection and high-fat diet on heart CD36/fatty-acid translocase expression in a rat model of short-bowel syndrome. Ped Surg Int (2002) doi: 10.1007/s00383-002-0861-9
“The Editors-in-Chief have retracted this article because parts of Fig. 1 apparently overlap with parts of Fig. 2, and in addition parts of Fig. 1 appear to be duplicated from parts of Fig. 2 in a previously published article . Author Igor Sukhotnik does not agree to this retraction.”
A doctorate degree was revoked for a Mr Bin Chen, by his Soochow University in China, because the thesis was based on fabricated research purchased from a paper mill (the mill exposed by Elisabeth Bik). But then the public announcement was revoked also, here saved screenshot (original and translated):
German billionaire Winfried Stöcker, having sold his diagnostics company Euroimmun (Which research accuracy was questioned by Elisabeth Bik, read here and here), got bored and invented a homemade COVID-19 vaccine. Which he then tested on himself and a hundred volunteers, without any ethics approval. He informed the German health authority Paul-Ehrlich-Institute only afterwards, excepting them to immediately approve his vaccine for public use, the institute reacted by reporting Stöcker to the state prosecutor for illegal human experimenting. Stöcker defends himself that it was actually compassionate use, which is called in German “individueller Heilversuch“. This makes no sense at all as per definition, especially the German term makes it clear. For starters, the volunteers he infected were not even ill, hence no need for a “healing attempt”, and there was a hundred of these healthy people, not one sick individual.
Alleged elite journalists of Spiegel touted the miracle vaccine in a TV programme, denouncing the conspiracy against Stöcker and wrongly claiming the vaccine was endorsed by Germany’s most prominent virologist, Christian Drosten.
The vaccine is made of a recombinant SARS-CoV2 protein, not really a novel or revolutionary approach. Yet thanks to the shoddy Spiegel coverage, Stöcker’s vaccine became quite popular in certain circles. Especially after Stöcker posted the recipe for the recombinant vaccine on his blog, inviting doctors to order his freeze-dried protein and mix the vaccine themselves.
So here is one customer. A general practitioner in the Görlitz area (where Stöcker incidentally owns a huge shopping mall) is “vaccinating” people in her private practice with “Stöcker”, the vaccine, and so far nobody is willing to do anything about it. The doctor wants to remain anonymous and said she was not the only one in Görlitz area applying the Stöcker:
“I have a list of at least 150 interested parties, including 50 Euroimmun employees. I will vaccinate with the Stöcker as soon as I have any” .
The Görlitz doctor also argues to operate under “compassionate use”, claiming the Stöcker is safer than Biontech/Pfizer vaccine. No wonder also covidiots and antivaxxers love it, the Stöcker seems to be the only vaccine they are willing, nay, fighting to have injected.
Probably you all saw it all over the news: scientists discover that pigs and mice can breath with their anuses, let’s train humans to do that so they can survive lung collapse caused by COVID-19.
This is the original paper:
Ryo Okabe, Toyofumi F. Chen-Yoshikawa, Yosuke Yoneyama, Yuhei Yokoyama, Satona Tanaka, Akihiko Yoshizawa, Wendy L. Thompson, Gokul Kannan, Eiji Kobayashi, Hiroshi Date, Takanori Takebe Mammalian enteral ventilation ameliorates respiratory failure Med (2021) doi: 10.1016/j.medj.2021.04.004
The study, led by Takanori Takebe of the Tokyo Medical and Dental University and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, declares:
“The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has overwhelmed the clinical need for ventilators and artificial lungs, resulting in a critical shortage of available devices and endangering patients’ lives worldwide. Inspired by organisms such as loaches that use intestinal air breathing, we show the effectiveness of an enteral ventilation approach in attaining systemic oxygenation in both rodent and porcine models. Intra-rectal delivery of a liquid form of O2 known as conjugated perfluorocarbon, a compound historically used in clinics for liquid ventilation through airway administration, is highly tolerable and efficacious in ameliorating severe respiratory failure. Thus, by repurposing the distal gut as an accessary breathing organ, enteral ventilation therapy offers an alternative paradigm as an adjunctive means to patients who are in critical need of respiratory support.”
The masterpiece appeared in Cell Press new open access journal Med, where you must pay €5700 for publication, which is a sale offer, because soon it will be €7600. This is what the scholars of the Tokyo Medical and Dental University did:
They first postulated that surely mammals can breathe through their anuses, because some fish can. The scientists then cut open the trachea of mice to insert a ventilation tube, in order to control how much oxygen the animals get, and put them on hypoxia to study their survival. Takebe et al then blew oxygen up the poor mice’s bums, the animals still didn’t breath through their anuses, and died from suffocation. Predictably. So the scientists tried an enema with oxygen-carrying perfluorochemicals, still no groundbreaking result, mice dead. Most scientists would have stopped there. But not these.
The Japanese inventors then decided: maybe the mice will do as science orders them if we damage their anuses till they bleed? So they deployed a noxious substance (dextran sulfate sodium) or stuck “an interdental brush” into mouse bottoms to cause a “mechanical abrasion”, and look, suddenly it worked, the mice allegedly took longer to die. It worked best with “moderate” mechanical abrasion. There were also similar experiments with pigs and rats.
I’m not sure what next then. Sodomize COVID-19 patients at ICU with a toilet brush in a phase 1 safety clinical trial, then blow up oxygen? The young Japanese genius, whose usual research is about “using stem cells in dishes to grow miniature organs, such as lungs” announced in New York Times:
“Dr. Takebe sees an urgent need for better ways to get oxygen to critically ill patients. “I am really keen on pursuing the clinical translation potentials as fast as possible,” he said.
Toward that end, he’s just begun a start-up in Japan called EVA Therapeutics, Inc. (EVA stands for enteral ventilation via anus, the name of his technique.) He said that the method’s safety in humans needed to be carefully evaluated, but that he was hoping to begin clinical trials as early as next year.”
Presently, Takebe is currently crowdfunding for that:
Vitamin D, the immune system and COVID-19
Germany’s Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) was cited in media declaring that low levels of Vitamin D make susceptible for COVID-19, which was interpreted as an expert call for supplementation. But then BfR warned the media that they never advocated supplement use. BfR is funded by the German Ministry for Agriculture and loves deploying its unlimited public funds to sue journalists, as they did to those who published the BfR’s secret glyphosate report (which turned out to have been copy-pasted from Monsanto, read here). So of course the media got scared and issued corrections (here, Tagesschau).
Yet in their own press release, titled utterly unambiguously “Vitamin D, the immune system and COVID-19“, BfR advises this:
“Observational studies show that COVID-19 patients, especially those who are seriously ill, often have too low vitamin D concentrations in their blood. However, it is usually unclear whether the low vitamin D serum levels existed before the illness or were only caused by the infection. Some observational studies and intervention studies indicate that taking vitamin D preparations has a positive effect on the course of a COVID-19 disease can affect. […]
It is scientifically undisputed that a sufficient supply of vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Studies also show that people with an inadequate vitamin D supply have an increased risk of acute respiratory infections and can benefit from the administration of vitamin D preparations. […]
However, not everyone achieves a sufficient vitamin D level through the body’s own production when exposed to sunlight. An additional intake of vitamin D can therefore be useful for certain groups of people, especially in the winter months. If you want to supplement Vitamin D, you should use food supplements with up to 20 micrograms of vitamin D (800 international units) per day, as this dose is not associated with any harmful effects. The use of dietary supplements can be particularly useful for people who belong to a risk group for an inadequate vitamin D supply. The risk groups include people who (cannot) spend little or no time outdoors or – for cultural or religious reasons, for example – only go outside with their bodies completely covered. In addition, people with a dark skin colour belong to the risk groups, as the high content of the skin pigment melanin means that they can produce less vitamin D than people with light skin. Another important risk group can be the elderly, because vitamin D production decreases significantly with age.”
No, of course the stupid lying media got it wrong, BfR never suggested to buy Vitamin D supplements to avoid COVID-19, never gave you instructions on how often and how much you should take, read yourself, the words are perfectly clear or do you want to meet their lawyers in court? And now we also have the science to understand which risk factor really caused the disproportionately high COVID-19 deaths among Black US-Americans, and now the pandemic carnage for dark-skinned people in India and Brazil. Bless you, BfR.
Lab Leak Theory
Look at the names who now demand the lab leak theory of COVID-19 origins from a Wuhan lab to be taken seriously.
Jesse D. Bloom, Yujia Alina Chan, Ralph S. Baric, Pamela J. Bjorkman, Sarah Cobey, Benjamin E. Deverman, David N. Fisman, Ravindra Gupta, Akiko Iwasaki, Marc Lipsitch, Ruslan Medzhitov, Richard A. Neher, Rasmus Nielsen, Nick Patterson, Tim Stearns, Erik van Nimwegen, Michael Worobey, David A. Relman Investigate the origins of COVID-19 Science (2021) doi: 10.1126/science.abj0016
“In May 2020, the World Health Assembly requested that the World Health Organization (WHO) director-general work closely with partners to determine the origins of SARS-CoV-2 (2). In November, the Terms of Reference for a China–WHO joint study were released (3). The information, data, and samples for the study’s first phase were collected and summarized by the Chinese half of the team; the rest of the team built on this analysis. Although there were no findings in clear support of either a natural spillover or a lab accident, the team assessed a zoonotic spillover from an intermediate host as “likely to very likely,” and a laboratory incident as “extremely unlikely” [(4), p. 9]. Furthermore, the two theories were not given balanced consideration. Only 4 of the 313 pages of the report and its annexes addressed the possibility of a laboratory accident (4). Notably, WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus commented that the report’s consideration of evidence supporting a laboratory accident was insufficient and offered to provide additional resources to fully evaluate the possibility (5).
As scientists with relevant expertise, we agree with the WHO director-general (5), the United States and 13 other countries (6), and the European Union (7) that greater clarity about the origins of this pandemic is necessary and feasible to achieve. We must take hypotheses about both natural and laboratory spillovers seriously until we have sufficient data. A proper investigation should be transparent, objective, data-driven, inclusive of broad expertise, subject to independent oversight, and responsibly managed to minimize the impact of conflicts of interest. Public health agencies and research laboratories alike need to open their records to the public. Investigators should document the veracity and provenance of data from which analyses are conducted and conclusions drawn, so that analyses are reproducible by independent experts.”
Now, you may have noticed that one of the authors of this white paper is Ralph Baric, virology professor at the University of North Carolina, USA. Who published in 2015, together with the “Bat Woman” Zhengli Shi of Wuhan Institute of Virology, a paper in Nature about their joint gain-of-function and genetic engineering research with coronaviruses, Menachery et al, A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence, Nature 2015. The Baric-Shi paper is decorated since March 2020 with:
“Editors’ note, March 2020: We are aware that this article is being used as the basis for unverified theories that the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19 was engineered. There is no evidence that this is true; scientists believe that an animal is the most likely source of the coronavirus.”
Crazy world, eh?
News in brief
- In India, devout covidiots flock to cow sanctuaries to smear themselves with cow dung, as COVID-19 protection. Worse: despite of these gentlemen being covered in shit, no social distancing, quite the opposite (Reuters)
- Also in India, only hackers or those who pay them get vaccinated because otherwise it’s not possible to book an appointment with the national online platform (Rest of The World, via Coda Story)
- Some German politicians are pushing for ivermectin as COVID-19 therapy, referencing Pierre Kory’s quack alliance FLCCC, while doctors in Munich and Hamburg have been already treating patients, but not inclined to discuss their results (SZ).
- Le Monde reports about the legal action by Didier Raoult and Eric Chabriere against Elisabeth Bik, whom these French gentlemen reported to state prosecutor on made-up extortion and harassment charges. Even the IHU lawyer Brice Grazzini is quoted. We learn in passing that the local state prosecutor refused to investigate Raoult for illegal and unethical human experiments with chloroquine, because Raoult is that well-connected. Will same prosecutor charge Bik instead?
- Racism: it’s 2021, and the National Football League (NFL) argues in the US court with a “scoring algorithm” which “asserts that Black men have lower cognitive skills“, all to avoid paying for the brain damage their Black players suffered. The $1 billion settlement should only cover white players, NFL says (Newsweek).
- More racism: you may recall the scare about falling sperm count and impending human exntiction, based on 2017 research by the Mount Sinai professor Shanna Swan? She even wrote a doomsday warning book, named “CountDown”. Now, what Swan did, was to divide the world population into “Western”, meaning in reality white, and “Other”. The sperm loss affects the whites and not the “other”, according to Swan’s analysis, imagine the implications, and of course the far-right embraced her warnings, decrying a white holocaust. Four scientists debunk Swan’s “white sperm” research in a Slate article and in a peer-reviewed publication (Boulicault et al 2021).
- A Weill Cornell professor named Christopher Mason who spends his time writing papers and books on human genetic engineering for space colonisation is suddenly concerned about polluting Mars with Earth microbes. Mason contradicts his own vision, but who cares, it’s clickbait, here in New York Times and here on BBC.
- Some scientists now start suspecting that sleep is a physiological process which doesn’t require a brain, because it turned out, even “lower” animals like jellyfish and even hydra sleep. These have no brain, just single neuron cells interspersed in the body, which kind of makes decades of brain-centred chronobiology and sleep research a bit misguided. There is a good overview in Quanta Magazine, but the article never mentions plants, because plant sleep is still a heresy.
- Alcoholism? Russian Defence Minister and Putin’s most loyal bootlicker Sergei Shoigu announced to clone some 3,000-year-old Scythian warriors, found in a Siberian burial site. On Shoigu’s orders, a shaman was present at the exhumation and a Russian-Swiss archaeological team was tasked with securing DNA for cloning (All That’s Interesting/Ancient Origins/Daily Mail).
