Respected Hessian academic looks for very young, moneyless women from broken families in a conservative, Muslim culture

Not entirely unexpectedly, I am being sued again. That’s what you get when you write about other things than just retractions. This time, a Frankfurt-based radiologist Michael Stehling is suing me, but not for my old article about his stem cell quackery, but for an article published in one of the biggest German national daily newspapers, Welt, which I dared to quote.

The first court hearing is in Frankfurt, at 12:00 on Thursday, 12 November 2026. It is at Landgericht (district court), Building B, Gerichtsstrasse 2, Room 337. The hearing is public, before my hearing there’s one in the same room of the publisher of the Welt newspaper Axel Springer Verlag against Stehling and the previous injunction he achieved against them. Maybe you are in the area and would be interested to watch?

This is what Stehling’s lawsuit is about. In March 2026 Shorts, I quoted from a Welt article by the journalist Thilo Komma-Pöllath, about a mysterious doctor who was accused of sexual abuse of his Indonesian wife, which started when she was still 17 years old. The article contained this sentence:

“A science blogger called [M…] a “quack” in 2022 – the post remains online to this day without objection.”

The journalist Thilo Komma-Poellath also shared his Welt article on LinkedIn – the post is now deleted, due to the injunction I removed its main content – but what matters are the two hyperlinks he added:

Guess where these two links go. My own LinkedIn profile and my website, For Better Science. Apparently I was this science blogger who called this person a “quack” in 2022?

Get your hard-on with Prof Dr Dr Dr Stehling’s liposuction

“Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. M. K. Stehling, the founder of ANOVA IRM and the Vitus Prostate Center , is a radiologist (MD) and holds a PhD in physics. […] ANOVA IRM GmbH, located in Offenbach, near Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is an officially controlled German medical company. We have permits to harvest, process and manufacture…

I contacted Stehling several times before quoting the Welt story on my website, he never replied. In my own article, I also pointed out the strange similarities between the bad guy’s description in the Welt article and Stehling’s CV.

In April 2026, Stehling, represented by Damm Lawyers, achieved an injunction against Axel Springer Verlag and against Komma-Poellath. The Welt article was later republished with almost all accusations of sexual abuse still in place, but with some of the identifying clues removed – German media rarely ever names anyone, and people still sue, not because they can disprove the accusations but because they can be indirectly identified. Damm lawyer demanded that I delete my reporting and sign a cease-and-desist letter, which I didn’t do. So they sued me, literally for nothing else but for quoting Welt. And the court admitted the lawsuit, so here we are. Come and watch if you like.

Here again are some quotes from the current Welt article:

“A young woman from Asia flees her arranged marriage to a much older German man. The young woman goes to the police and claims she was raped over the years. Instead of a thorough investigation, however, the case is quickly closed – and suddenly the young woman has to justify herself.”

All names were changed in the article, that of the alleged perpetrator even twice. He was “Martin” in the original Welt article, became briefly “Karlheinz” in the new version, and is “Martin” again in the next paragraphs. “Nisa” met her abuser over a dating platform, where she was looking for a pen-pal from the west:

“After two months, Nisa S. was contacted by a man named Karlheinz* – supposedly in his early 30s, without a profile picture. He showed great interest, often asked about her worries and fears, complimented her and called her a “very special girl”. Since Nisa didn’t speak English, all communication was done via Google Translate. Nisa was flattered and sought his advice more and more often. Karlheinz soon asked her for nude pictures, but Nisa refused. […]

Martin wrote in English: “But don’t you have any pictures that show more of your sexy body ;-)Please…”.

In February 2012, he sent her photos of a ten-year-old blonde girl in a Lolita pose with a cigarette and other children on a veranda, their genital parts visible. Martin wrote that “so freely and uninhibitedly” …”will I live with you”.”

In July 2011, “Martin” arrived to Indonesia, the 17 year old Nisa was urged by her family to travel far away from their home city to meet him, and he turned out to be much older:

“An email exchange between Nisa and Martin shows that he gave her skin care tablets in Jakarta – in reality they were birth control pills. The sexual abuse of the minor is said to have begun in Jakarta and a little later during a visit by Martin, Nisa testified in three interviews with the German police after her escape in 2023. […]

He made suggestive comments to his siblings about menstruation and sexual intercourse and repeatedly tried to meet Nisa alone. He achieved this at the end of September 2011 in Makassar. That day, mother Dery found her daughter’s blood-stained handkerchiefs and clothes and concluded that Martin had “forced her to engage in sexual acts, which resulted in the loss of her virginity.”

Via his lawyer, “Martin” insisted that the underage girl engaged in sexual intercourse with him voluntarily. Her religiously devout family then forced her to marry him and go with him to Germany:

“At the beginning of 2012, when the marriage was finalized, Martin wrote to Nisa in an email: “You are MINE now.”
Shortly after her 18th birthday, Nisa was married. Just four weeks after Martin was divorced from his first wife Nadira*, also much younger.”

The marriage was in my view a decade of sexual slavery, if not worse:

“Nisa felt like Martin’s “property”: he appointed her gynecologist, ordered a cesarean section, and forbade breastfeeding the child. She didn’t speak any German, had no personal contacts, no money, no job, and he even took away her passport for a time – she was completely dependent on Martin, a respected Hessian academic.”

In a court hearing, “Martin” openly admitted to have had many affairs, even as he was arranging his marriage with Nisa, and that that he had “good experiences with young women from Indonesia“, whom he recruited as maids and au pairs, he laughed when describing sex with them as “very satisfying“:

“The pattern is striking: Martin looks for very young, moneyless women from broken families in a conservative, Muslim culture.”

In 2022, when “Nisa” considered leaving “Martin”, he locked her up in the bedroom: “Nisa feared another attack and called out in panic, “Help! Help!” Their au pair banged on the door from outside: “Stop! Stop! Stop!””

“Martin” also filed criminal charges against his wife, for alleged child abduction, because their son Andreas stayed overnight with his half-brother; and for theft, because Nisa shopped with his credit card as usual. And, obviously this goes in privacy-obsessed Germany when you introduce yourself as “professor”: “He personally visited the stores to secure surveillance camera footage, intending to later hand it over to the police as alleged evidence.“

The sexual abuse continued with their common child:

“the public prosecutor’s office investigated Martin in 2023 on suspicion of sexual abuse of his own son. In interviews with judges, legal counsel and the youth welfare office, Andreas explained that his father had asked him to perform sexual acts on several occasions. According to an affidavit from a family friend, Andreas is said to have revealed to him that his father had forced him to watch his mother being raped.”

The German justice took the professor’s side against a foreign Muslim woman who doesn’t speak German. The police treated Nisa rudely, refused to call an interpreter in her native language, she had to answer in her broken English, the whole charade took merely 50 minutes including English translation. Three dozen of witnesses were named, none were interviewed.

“the prosecution adopts Martin’s narrative of the “non-violent and consensual” relationship, even though the alleged ordeal is well documented by a dozen witnesses, affidavits, a 208-page memory log, audio recordings, emails and WhatsApp messages.”

All criminal investigations were terminated by the public prosecutors. “Martin” is officially innocent.

And that#s why Stehling sued everyone, as I was told, also his former wife over alimony payments to her and his son, and he won in every case. Let’s see if his winning streak will continue.

Damm insists on calling Stehling “Professor” despite Stehling obviously holding no real professorship at any proper university, a fact that Stehling himself indirectly admitted by removing his false professor title from the websites of his private clinic.

Left: Stehling’s clinic websites in late 2025 (archived here, here and here). Right: current versions from January 2026 (here, here and here)

It is a crime to carry false academic titles in Germany, at least normal foot-folk like myself could even end up in jail if I were to call myself Professor.

German media law really needs some reform.

Data published in the article’s supplement have no counterpart in the dissertation

You may recall Science Guardians, the anonymous account on X which is dedicated to calling for arrest, imprisonment, deportation and apparently also execution of PubPeer sleuths and especially your truly.

The persons or person behind that account have been harassing the leadership of the University of Düsseldorf about my PhD thesis for over a year (read above). As the Dean of the sciences faculty Martin Heil told me, he, the rector, the vice-rector, the chancellor, the ombudspeople, and many others have been bombarded with mass-email about my “alleged misconduct”. This time however, it was not just the usual accusations about my cartoon, this time they used Claude AI to write a report which looked convincing enough to the university authorities to open a preliminary investigation. As I was told, the complaint was submitted from a Gmail account under a fictional name.

Here it is, denouncing outrageous fraud in my PhD thesis from 2008 and my publication Schneider et al 2007:

The text not only looks like written by an LLM, the file is written in Anthropic fonts, which makes clear it was created with Claude AI. I eventually submitted my reply, explaining that this AI analysis was misguided and wrong. The only valid issue it found was my labelling a figure panel with “centrosomes” instead of “centromeres”, while the figure legend and the main text correctly referred to centromeres. Also, Schneider couldn’t decide if the p-value of just below 0.05 in an otherwise irrelevant data-point was indeed significant, and placed a star in the thesis and no star in the peer-reviewed paper! This is the best accusation ever:

“data published in the article’s supplement have no counterpart in the dissertation”

The Schneider et al 2007 publication contains some data which I didn’t add to my PhD thesis written just when the paper was undergoing peer review. The complaint demands from the university authorities:

“ensure that the primary records […] are identified and secured, to the extent they still exist: immunoblot films, flow-cytometry files, microscopy files and laboratory notebooks;”

And then there was the Figure 10.

Well, that’s it, only one way out now: title revocation and fraud findings, followed by Science Guardians’ classical calls for arrest, denaturalisation, deportation and extermination of Schneider. Right?

The Dean assured me that the university will certainly not comply with the demand of “raw data or fraud proven”, simply because my thesis is almost over 18 years old old and I left University of Düsseldorf in December 2007.

Meanwhile, journal editors and publishers are being bombarded with AI analyses of my papers, even on papers I merely contributed to as collaborator. Here is the very last lab research paper I ever contributed to, from my last job in academia, at the Max Planck Institute in Mainz.

Paulo R. F. Rocha, Maria C. R. Medeiros , Ulrike Kintzel , Johannes Vogt , Inês M. Araújo , Ana L. G. Mestre , Volker Mailänder , Paul Schlett , Melanie Dröge , Leonid Schneider , Fabio Biscarini , Dago M. De Leeuw , Henrique L. Gomes Extracellular electrical recording of pH-triggered bursts in C6 glioma cell populations Science Advances (2016) doi: 10.1126/sciadv.1600516

The editors received an AI-generated complaint, reporting minor issues like typos, which AI is indeed extremely good in finding. Presumably, Holden Thorp, the Editor-in-Chief of all Science family journals, appointed the AAAS Research Integrity Specialist named Jeffrey Petty to crack down on this paper, likely because it has Schneider on it.

Just as the lead author submitted a rebuttal to the first complaint, the Petty Research Integrity Specialist informed him that he received a second set of “comments from
another reader
“, which remarkably show “some overlap” with the comments from the first reader (one wonders why). And of course that must be also addressed. So you can imagine how upset the coauthors now are, having to answer to AI-generated bollocks just because Petty & Thorp want to statue an example here.

However, if Science Advances really should insist on a correction for typos: it must be a so-called Publisher’s Erratum, with publisher taking the blame and apologising to everyone. If you as publisher charge authors $5k for “added value”, you should to the very least provide copy-editing to eliminate typos.

I am certainly not the only one being harassed with LLM-generated nonsense complaints. A sleuth in central Europe, who is an active academic scientist and investigates papermill fraud under their full name, suffered much, much worse. Every single paper of theirs was complained about, and in most cases the editors dropped everything (because everyone hates sleuths, right?), and forced my colleague to publish corrections for non-issues or submit multiple rounds of long rebuttals to disprove those non-issues, which nobody in those editorial offices ever read anyway because, how very ironic, they all use AI to read all submissions for them.

Like many other things, AI is indeed a dangerous weapon in the hands of idiots. The problem are not really those criminal freaks who use LLM to generate vexatious bad-faith complaints about research papers and PhD dissertations of those they hate. The problem is with academics and editors who refuse to reject such AI-generated complaints outright, or even use them as the opportunity to settle scores of their own.

As for Science Guardians: we know that Wafik El-Deiry is more or less behind it, but he lacks the technical skills to do run this platform. Someone else with the right skills, clearly another male US citizen and MAGA fanboy, is doing the dirty work for Wafik.

Following some rumours, I contacted a certain IT expert called Ryan James Jessup, who used to work for Oncotarget, the journal which El-Deiry is now Editor-in-Chief of. Jessup spends his days on LinkedIn, when he isn’t liking El-Deiry’s personal posts, he is attacking Mu Yang and other sleuths and complaining about PubPeer. In an email to me, Jessup proudly admitted to have reported Mu to her employer, Columbia University, for “targeted harassment toward me and potentially others” over her LinkedIn post. Later, he accused also me of stalking and of being obsessed with him. Noteworthy, Jessup does use sock-puppets to “independently” promote himself and attack others, most prominently his own PeerReviewMe:

Jessup claimed to have no have never interacted with El-Deiry, only with Oncotarget‘s deceased owner Mikhail Blagosklonny, and regarding Science Guardians, he told me: “I categorically deny any involvement in operating or managing that account” and added “have not meaningfully examined the Science Guardians X account, do not follow its activities, and have no knowledge of its operators, affiliations, or objectives“, but then offered “to pursue an evidence-based examination of Science Guardians” if I pay him. Eventually, he warned “Stop sending me unwanted communications – this is harassment” and reiterated: “This is harassment – I will be reporting it“.

Harassing and “reporting” people is indeed exactly what Science Guardians do, what funny coincidence.

Science Guardian apparently calling upon FBI, ICE and CIA to kill me, in Germany, because I disrespected a fellow racist, Nathan Cofnas (SciGuardians on X)

The Science Guardians account on X had a brief pause, after posting stuff like the above, but it is back harassing random women because David Sabatini won a $6 Million damage lawsuit against the victim of his sexual harassment who “defamed” him by reporting the abuse to MIT.

Built for Victory

Colossal, the “de-extinction” company by tech bro Ben Lamm and MIT’s professor of anti-aging eugenics, George Church, is always good for unhinged announcements, just to stay in the news and to keep investors happy.

Colossal Liar Wolves

“What is most concerning is that Colossal’s ‘dire wolves’ have now attracted the attention of the Trump administration.” – Ronan Taylor

We had the fake dire wolves de-exitincted, we had announcements of impending de-extinction of mammoths, dodos, moas and thylacines, we even had Mars terraforming, but now we also have AI-controlled clone trooper dogs! Because Lamm teamed up with another tech bro, Palmer Luckey, the founder of the military company Anduril which builds autonomous weapons, to set up Warhound!

WIRED brought this story on 22 October 2026:

“The startup has raised $200 million to “rebuild America’s domestic supply of elite working dogs” and reduce dependency on European dog breeders for military canines.

Lamm tells WIRED that Warhound is in the process of gene-editing its first batch of dogs. The startup has already collected blood samples from specific “top-performing” military, police, and first responder dogs in the United States, and its goal is to clone them. Breeds will be “mostly Belgian Malinois, some labs, and some shepherds,” he says. The company anticipates the first round of puppies to be born in early 2027.

The initial rounds of gene-editing will focus on eliminating common health conditions that impact these breeds, like hip dysplasia. Further down the line, Lamm envisions expanding to “really interesting things,” such as incorporating olfactory receptor genes from wolves to “enhance” the military dogs. […]

Warhound, based in Texas, will also equip its canines with “Anduril’s advanced cybernetic Augments, software, and battlefield situational awareness,” according to a press release. […] “Someone said, ‘So it’s like the Captain America dog program with the Ironman tech program on top of it,’” Lamm tells WIRED.”

“Proud to Serve. Built for Victory.” (Warhound)

We are told that “Lamm is on the company’s board“, but Luckey isn’t, the company will be operated by a former Palantir exec, David Spirk. Warhound is “Certified by the American Humane Society“, so all is well.

Of course this is another load of bollocks from Lamm, but now some things fall into place and start to make sense. So you shouldn’t laugh about this Warhound project, there are serious and very advanced developments on that area by Colossal.

You see, in August 2026, Colossal announced yet another collaboration. With Paw Patrol!

“The Cloning Company Trying to Bring Back the Woolly Mammoth Enlists ‘Paw Patrol’ in Its Efforts (Exclusive)” (Hollywood Reporter)

The Hollywood Reporter reported an “EXCLUSIVE”:

“Paramount, Spin Master and Colossal have teamed to “teach children that real animals don’t always have the Paw Patrol to rescue them.” The group playing God even got Godzilla: King of the Monsters writer/director Michael Dougherty — and the dude who voices firedog Marshall (Carter Young) — to put together a call-to-action video for the little tablet-wielders.”

Here is this Call to Action:

hhe Hollywood Reporter mentions other achievements by Colossal

“Thus far, Colossal has de-extincted red wolves, the most endangered species of wolf with only 14 left in the wild — the company used the same tech that was deployed to bring back dire wolves. The nerds at Colossal have also used “AI-enabled bioacoustic sensors” to decode their howls, the company says.

Colossal is very tech-forward, and is presently “working with indigenous tribes and other partners on more than 25 AI & biotechnology-enabled conservation projects” aimed at saving rhinos and amphibians as well.”

I told you this Warhound project is serious. Here is the ChatGPT illustration:

In other Colossal news, the company bought a moa egg shell for $14,000 at an auction, on advise of the New Zeeland film maker and moa deextinction enthusiast Peter Jackson. Colossal “plans to return the egg to New Zealand in December, where it will be placed under the care of Māori researchers and cultural leaders.“, as we had the honour to read in People on 20 October 2026 and many other major news outlets.

On 14 October 2026, Colossal captured the global headlines because it “is making progress toward its goal of resurrecting the dodo“, specifically Reuters told us, the company “used a newly developed AI platform to identify ‌genetic changes that may be responsible for the dodo’s distinctive craniofacial traits as its scientists pursue gene-editing targets to bring back this lost species.” This new AI platform by Colossal is called GenoMorph, Lamm is already discussing dodo release sites in the Mauritius. In September 2026, New York Post informed us that also “Woolly mammoth to be resurrected with the help of AI“, the reporters also reminded us that “Colossal Biosciences has been successful in producing a family of 38 woolly mice which were created using the mammoth genetic coding for shaggy hair.“

On the same day in October 2026, the anti-aging entrepreneur Peter Diamandis informed that he invests in Colossal. Normally, Diamandis organises exclusive XPRIZE conferences for the very rich, selling solutions to eternal life (read August 2025 Shorts), so he is definitely not really interested in de-extinction of any fluffy animals. Rather, in preventing his own and his fellow multimillionaires’ extinction.

Rather it seems Colossal’s real business is anti-aging and life extension, which would also fit to the real interests of Church. On 15 October 2026, Diamandis, Lamm and Church launched the company Neogenesis Capital, described in accordance to Trump’s Executive Order as “A venture fund at the intersection of superintelligence and synthetic biology“. The company invests into Colossal and Colossal’s “gestated” companies, which are currently Breaking, promising genetically “enhanced microorganisms and enzymes to address the decades-long accumulation of waste in our landfills and oceans“, and Astromech, which develops an AI “to decode the regulatory and evolutionary logic of biology“.

Will you stop laughing or shall I set the Warhound versions of Chase and Marshall on you?

Neogenesis even has a “Head of Culture” and “is also targeting longevity, fertility, environmental remediation and pandemic prevention.” Yes, they mean longevity of the rich and fertility of the white race.

Solely due to the management style and the frequent departures

Another fraud scandal in Zürich in Switzerland, this time for real. Unlike with Olivier Voinnet, Francesco Maisano or Adriano Aguzzi, who all were officially declared to be more or less innocent, this time it is serious, maybe because the perpetrator is a woman!

A Swiss online magazine Inside Paradeplatz reported on 23 October 2026 (translated):

“Sina Coldewey was supposed to establish the important anesthesia department at the University Hospital of Zurich (USZ) at the top of the world clinics.

Now the professor from Germany is suspended. Immediately. A spokesman confirms this.

“Two experienced senior doctors will take over interim management for the duration of their absence.”

Coldewey’s leadership style caused mass departures. Over a dozen subordinates have resigned since she started in summer 2025. According to a source, these include senior physicians, senior senior physicians and a senior physician.”

It reads like someone bullied her subordinates much more than it is common in academic medicine.

Sina Coldewey was previously in the Swiss news because of her four retractions, all in Frontiers and all with her former PhD mentor at Queen Mary University London (QMUL), Christoph Thiemermann, about which I wrote in February 2025 Shorts. The Swiss journos must have read For Better Science rather late, because Tagesanzeiger only reported about the retractions in June 2026, Thiemermann was never mentioned, probably because he is a) officially declared innocent by QMUL despite 16 retractions, and b) a man. Never mind that just the year before he had a guest professorship just on the other side of the Swiss border, at the University of Ulm.

Queen Mary and John Vane’s Cowboys

Welcome to the the William Harvey Research Institute in London. Meet two proteges of its founder, the late Nobelist Sir John Vane: Chris Thiemermann and Mauro Perretti. Then meet their own rotten mentees, especially Salvatore Cuzzocrea and Jesmond Dalli.

To Tagesanzeiger, Coldewey insisted “I was not involved in the execution, analysis and presentation of the Western blots in the retracted publications” and blamed some on the opposite side of the Swiss border, a collaborator in Italy. This must be then Massimo Collino, professor at University of Turin. UZH did investigate the affair, and the newspaper was given the report:

“An emeritus professor of biochemistry classifies the situation on two pages. He criticizes that the journal did not adequately justify the retraction of the articles. […]
In October 2025, the reviewer came to the conclusion that no further steps were necessary because the publications had already been retracted. “Based on this assessment, the university management saw no reason to initiate a procedure to examine academic integrity,” says the UZH media office.”

“The Italian researcher“, i.e. Collino was made solely responsible for everything. I expected nothing less from UZH.

The professional journalist of Tageanzeiger also credited the retraction-causing findings in Coldewey’s paper to Elisabeth Bik, while these specific papers were actually flagged by Aneurus Inconstans and Claire Francis. Elisabeth however added post-mortem findings to the already retracted papers O’Riordan et al 2020 and Verra et al 2023, showing how outrageously fraudulent they really were. Elisabeth also contribute to other PubPeer threads. Like this paper which UZH heroically saved from retraction:

Sina M Coldewey, Mara Rogazzo , Massimo Collino, Nimesh S A Patel, Christoph Thiemermann Inhibition of IκB kinase reduces the multiple organ dysfunction caused by sepsis in the mouse Disease Models & Mechanisms (2013) doi: 10.1242/dmm.012435

Fig 3D,E by Claire Francis
Elisabeth Bik: “Some more similarities in Figures 3 and 4, building on the concerns posted in #1 and #2“.
Fig 4B by Claire Francis

In July 2026, the journal informed on PubPeer that “The Publication Integrity Team at The Company of Biologists is assessing the issues” in that and in another paper by Coldewey, Thiemermann and Collino:

Areeg I Khan, Sina M Coldewey , Nimesh S A Patel , Mara Rogazzo , Massimo Collino , Muhammed M Yaqoob , Peter Radermacher, Amar Kapoor , Christoph Thiemermann Erythropoietin attenuates cardiac dysfunction in experimental sepsis in mice via activation of the β-common receptor Disease Models & Mechanisms (2013) doi: 10.1242/dmm.011908

Fig 3B by Claire Francis

By the way, another coauthor is Thiemermann’s friend in Ulm, Peter Radermacher.

These four Frontiers retractions arrived just when Coldewey got promoted to Director of the Institute for Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UZH in January 2025, having been installed as full professor in August 2024. Between her PhD with Thiemermann in London and her move to Zürich, the German native Coldewey was full professor, deputy clinic director and head of anaesthesiology at the University of Jena in Germany, where she worked since 2014. One could ask if Coldewey’s departure from Jena was connected to the same bullying behaviour which now led to her removal at UZH.

In Jena, Coldewey left behind a publicly-funded spin-out biotech called Septomics, the board features next to her several other German professors. You probably see why absolutely nobody has any interest in criticising Coldewey’s scientific performance.

There are only four retractions and not six, the last two entries are misguided. Don’t rely on AI, maybe? (insideparadeplatz.ch)

According to Inside Paradeplatz (which also never mentions Thiemermann), UZH still has absolutely no problem with Coldewey’s fake science:

“The hospital bosses investigated the allegations, but then gave the all-clear. According to an insider, the suspension was solely due to the management style and the frequent departures. The alleged manipulations and the retractions of the specialist articles – there were a total of half a dozen such “retractions” – did not play a role in the decision.”

Never enough

The following story is a cautionary tale that for some men it is never enough.

The US oncologist Robert Peter Gale MD, PhD, DSc(hc), FACP, FRCP, FRCPI(hon), FRSM is 81 years old, has published around 1500 papers and achieved an h-index of 150.

Gale is a clinician, academic and businessman. He is credited with having “coordinated the international medical response team for the Chernobyl nuclear disaster” in 1986 and of other nuclear incidents. He used to be senior exec at various pharma companies, holds various hospital appointments in USA and UK, Editor-in-Chief of the Springer Nature journal Leukemia, and is visiting professor at Imperial College London and two Chinese universities, the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center in Guangzhou and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College in Beijing.

The latter affiliations earned him papers which look like papermill trash. Why did he need those papers? Because there are never enough things to put your name on?

Some of it is on PubPeer, flagged by the pseudonymous sleuth Claire Francis:.

Jia-Min Zhang , Yan Xu , Robert P Gale , Li-Xin Wu , Jing Zhang , Yong-Huai Feng , Ya-Zhen Qin , Hao Jiang , Qian Jiang , Bin Jiang , Yan-Rong Liu , Yu-Hong Chen , Yu Wang , Xiao-Hui Zhang , Lan-Ping Xu , Xiao-Jun Huang , Kai-Yan Liu , Guo-Rui Ruan DPEP1 expression promotes proliferation and survival of leukaemia cells and correlates with relapse in adults with common B cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia British Journal of Haematology (2020) doi: 10.1111/bjh.16505

“Much more similar than expected for different proteins:” Fig 1B and 5A

The practical use of Chinese money was clear, but maybe Gale will regret putting his name on these papers now, it’s not like he really needed them:

“Much more similar than expected for different proteins.” Fig 2b and 5b

Note that the FACS plots are identical only in part, meaning they were definitely not duplicated by mistake, it was a conscious effort by someone in China to forge data.

The irony is that Gale is not naive about fraud in science. He even seemed to read this website! In August 2019, he contacted me about a permission to use my cartoon from the article below for his own “editorial on abuses of the term stem cell transplantation” in the journal Bone Marrow Transplantation. The editorial was then published as Gale & Lazarus 2019.

Stem cell cures for everything, Made in Germany by TICEBA

The Heidelberg-based company TICEBA (abbreviated from Tissue & Cell Banking) is not your ordinary run-of-the-mill cell bank. This German company, scientifically advised by the Harvard professor Markus Frank, claims that our skin contains pluripotent stem cells, which are capable of curing all kinds of diseases. This concept is utterly unsupported by scientific literature, and is…
