Lowdell’s stem cell business
My readers all heard about the Paolo Macchiarini trachea transplant affair, and that part of it played in London, where several trachea transplants, mostly deadly, and not always with Macchiarini’s involvement, took place, while supervised by Macchiarini’s former collaborator, Martin Birchall.
Some may even recall this name: Mark Lowdell. He is the UCL professor with a regenerative medicine lab at the Royal Free Hospital which “regenerated” tracheas for Macchiarini’s and later Birchall’s transplants, he also was involved in Birchall’s not entirely trustworthy larynx transplant experiments on pigs.
Now Patricia Murray uncovered another unethical scam of Lowdell. He has been selling cells from umbilical cords donated by birth-giving women to a charity at his Royal Free Hospital. Those cord tissue cells (labelled as “mesenchymal stem cells” or MSC) were then sold to a fellow quack for quack cures.
Private Eye reports:
“The Eye has learned of one hapless patient who paid £30,000 to Dr Aamer Khan’s Harley Street Skin Clinic (HSSC) for ineffective “stem cell” injections to treat chronic lung disease – offered under an NHS Royal Free “specials” licence. The cosmetic surgeon’s charges for therapies to treat everything from unspecified cancer and strokes to erectile dysfunction and hair loss started at around £20,000.
Dr Khan is already the subject of General Medical CounCil (GMC) interim restrictions on his practice over cosmetic procedures (see Eye 1552). He is now understood to be under investigation (again) by the GMC and is also part of a wider investigation by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the Human Tissue Authority (HTA), after being accused of targeting and exploiting seriously ill patients with false claims about the wonders of “stem cell” therapies.
The latest GMC complaints come from Professor Patricia Murray, an expert in stem cell biology at Liverpool University….”

Khan received the cord cells from the Anthony Nolan charity (to which the new mothers donated the umbilical cords), which is seated at Royal Free Hospital and usually provides umbilical cord blood for leukaemia treatments.
“This is where a multi-hat~wearing middleman, Prof Mark Lowdell, comes in, He is a University College London academic for one day a week and a director of the Royal Free’s Centre for Cell, Gene and Tissue Therapeutics (CCGTT) for three days, as well as being a biotech entrepreneur with several for-profit companies.
Two of those – LifePlus Stem Cell Technologies (SCT) LLP, jointly set up with fellow Royal Free plastic surgeon and UCL colleague Prof Afshin Mosahebi, and INmune Bio International Ltd — hire the Royal Free facilities Prof Lowdell otherwise manages under his NHS hat, raising a potential conflict of interest.
The Royal Free already had an agreement in place with Anthony Nolan to use donated umbilical cords for research purposes, with Prof Lowdell specifically named as researcher. But in 2017 the US-based lNmtme Bio, Prof Lowdell’s biggest enterprise, also signed a deal with the charity. In return for £200 per cord, lNmune Bio was permitted to use, process, test and store extracted cell products. It was further allowed to “commercialise” the cells with third parties – but
only for licensed treatments or approved research.”

So the tissue from umbilical cords donated to charity for leukaemia treatments was sold to Mosahebi’s and Lowdell’s Lifeplus SCT, which then sold it to Khan (in whose clinic Mosahebi worked privately as cosmetic surgeon), to be used for excessively priced quack cures for anti-aging, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cancer, Parkinson’s, erectile dysfunction etc.
You can see the stem cell menu on offer an archived version of HSSC website. And here are the archived LifePlus SCT services:

And it all was perfectly legal and supported by Royal Free Hospital, as Lowdell declared in a podcast in June 2020:
“…Prof Lowdell said that as well as the cost benefits to companies that don’t have to set up their own laboratories, using Royal Free facilities also enabled them to operate under the hospital’s manufacturing licence and quality systems. The hospital itself benefits from “rent”. He added: “Drugs can legally be signed off by the Royal Free Hospital.”

Patricia Murray calls this “an abuse of regulatory process“. Let’s see if anyone at Royal Free, UCL or MHRA will mind what Lowdell did. As soon as Private Eye started to ask questions, “HSSC removed all online “stem cell” references, and Lifeplus SCT has gone completely offline“. Lowdell informed the journalists:
“Prof Lowdell did not refute the allegations but claimed he had played no part in Lifeplus SCT since 2019 and it had not paid him. He said it was set up “to provide high-quality, MHRA-regulated stem cell medicines” to replace the unregulated market and “to stop the scandalous use of unregulated stem cell treatments in the UK”.”

Really? Lowdell only resigned as Lifeplus SCT company director in March 2022, after Murray started asking questions.
“Prof Lowdell also claimed that women cord donors were consenting for the cord “waste product” to be used for “academic and commercial products”. This is not consistent with Anthony Nolan literature for mothers, which says cord blood or tissue will only be used for transplant or ethics committee-approved research. The charity’s contract with lNmune Bio also explicitly forbids its use for any cosmetic use as offered by both the HSSC and Lifeplus…”
But Lowdell never cared for such silly things as medical ethics. He only ever cared about money, and this is why this man is filthily rich.

Raoult wants money for lawyers
You may recall that the soon-to-be-retired director of IHU Marseille, Didier Raoult (chloroquine guru, covidiot, bully, abettor of sexual harassment, research fraudster etc) sued Elisabeth Bik, having placed a criminal complaint to local state prosecutor for “harassment”.
I found out some details.
First of all, some days ago Raoult’s IHU stooge Philippe Parola posted this comment on PubPeer, I highlight the important part:
“”Thank you for this email. However, as a coauthor of this paper, I will not respond. However, Please see the answer made by the IHU Mediterranée Infection Foundation. For 2 years now, IHU Méditerranée Infection and its researchers have been the target of cyber harassment organized through the PUBPEER platform. This cyber-harassment campaign aims to incite scientific journals to retract scientific articles from IHU Méditerranée Infection to harm its image. Of the approximately 6,000 scientific articles published by IHU Méditerranée Infection, only one has been retracted during the past two years, an article in which the IHU was only cited as a partner. On the other hand, IHU Méditerranée Infection has confirmed itself as a world reference center, hosting within it 9 Highly Cited Researchers in 2021 out of the 86 French people in the field of life sciences, which greatly contributes to the international fame of Aix-Marseille University through Shanghai ranking. The IHU is also the center in France that has published the most on COVID-19 during the past two years (no less than 448 articles are currently referenced on PubMed). Nevertheless, in order to put an end to this harassment characterized by at least 370 commented articles on PUBPEER, often anonymously, in the majority of cases about misinterpretations of ethical aspects of research and sometimes in defamatory terms, accusing for example the IHU to carry out a neo-colonialist science, Foundation IHU Méditerranée Infection filed a complaint against the leader of the PUBPEER platform, Mr. Boris BARBOUR, as well as one of the identified authors, Mrs. Elisabeth BIK. This decision to file a complaint was voted on during the last Board of Directors of the Foundation in the presence, among others, of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the President of the University as well as the General Director of University Hospital. We call on each other to let justice take its course”
Parola’s comment was moderated by PubPeer, maybe because it named “the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine [Georges Leonetti], the President of the University [Eric Berton] as well as the General Director of University Hospital [Francois Cremieux]” as the people who allegedly supported Raoult’s gang in suing Bik.
Now, it is perfectly conceivable that Leonetti and Berton may have indeed condoned this decision, so far they showed extremely high tolerance for Raoult’s misconduct (scientific, medical and criminal). These two alpha males are part of Raoult’s power network, which involves medical and academic elites, politicians from moderate to far-right, French military, and even Macron’s wife; this is why this dirty old man is still at the helm of his rotten IHU and not in jail. C’est la France, you know.
But Cremieux? He was only recently appointed as director of Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Marseille (AP-HM), and his first act was to forcibly retire Raoult as public health clinician and to initiate an investigation into his crimes of illegal human experimenting.
No wonder then that neither Berton nor Leonetti replied to me, but Cremieux did:
“As Pr Parola’s statement is more than biased, a press release will shortly be posted by AP-HM (Marseille University Hospitals). I’ll make sure we forward it to you.
In few words, it is not “the decision to fill a complaint” that was presented to the board by Yolande Obadia (President of the Foundation) and Pr Raoult – the complaints had been filled for long – many month ago, some more than a year without any information of the board members – what was presented to the board was the decision to support the costs of the lawyers hired by Pr Raoult.“
As reminder, Obadia is the wife of Raoult’s close friend Jean-Paul Moatti, a big fish in France. Cremieux continued, also addressing my disappointment that IHU is only suing Bik and Barbour, but not me:
“If it is true that this decision was voted “in the presence of”, it would have been honest to give the precisions that
a)it was not a unanimous vote in favor
b) that although it was a secret ballot, founder members of the IHU (AP-HM, Aix Marseille University, IRD, EFS and SSA) had clearly stated their opposition to all legal procedures on behalf of our general opposition to the judicialization of scientific controverses.
During that board meeting, as CEO of AP-HM, I clearly repeated this opposition and our deep disagreements with Pr Raoult “strategy”.
So to say that if you may be disappointed not to be sued, I am rather proud of the Marseille University Hospitals for not supporting such legal action.”
What a bunch of wankers this IHU is. It’s all about money for them, all this farce with full stakeholder meeting and voting, for no other reason but to get the French taxpayer to cover their hefty bills to IHU lawyer Brice Grazzini, for an obviously failed criminal lawsuit against Bik.
Inflammation scammers
Science reported on 4 May 2022 about what may evolve into a major research fraud affair:
“For 3 decades, biochemist Charles Serhan at Brigham and Women’s Hospital has been the torch bearer for “resolution immunology”—a research field he pioneered after discovering the first molecules that seem to tamp down, or resolve, inflammation, the body’s rapid cellular and chemical response to injuries, infections, and even allergens. Ever since, research on these stop signals, formally known as specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs), has exploded. […]
Last month, in a paper in Frontiers in Pharmacology, an international group of 18 scientists including specialists in lipid analysis argued that the studies identifying these molecules in people typically detect them at levels so low they are unlikely to play a major role in resolving inflammation. The critics also found that most studies of human samples merely correlate SPM levels with a phase during the arclike time course of inflammation; data proving SPMs actually resolve it are weak to nonexistent, the authors argue.
The paper’s authors offered an even more damning critique: Protocols developed by Serhan and his collaborators to detect SPMs in body fluids or tissue samples don’t conform to accepted standards, they say. What is provided as proof of SPMs in many papers should actually be interpreted as mere “noise,” they argue.”
There is also this:
“The concerns over the detection methods, Science has learned from several sources, have prompted investigations at Harvard Medical School, the parent organization of Serhan’s hospital, and at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), where molecular pharmacologist Jesmond Dalli, a former Serhan postdoc, now studies lipid mediators. […]
In a preprint posted on 8 December 2021, the same group together with other specialists in lipid analysis highlighted a paper published by Dalli’s group in 2020 that identified a lipoxin, a resolvin, and a maresin in the serum of people with early rheumatoid arthritis. The paper went on to suggest the SPMs could be used as biomarkers to assess patients’ response to medications. But the critics said Dalli was not setting a limit of detection—a value representing the lowest measurable concentration that provides high confidence a molecule exists. Instead, they say, he used a different method that did not comply with accepted standards for detecting biomolecules. When O’Donnell and colleagues applied the criteria described in the paper to inert methanol and buffer fluid, they found it indicated the presence of lipids where clearly none existed.
O’Donnell and her colleagues concluded that Serhan and Dalli often appeared to quantify lipids by integrating what the critics would consider “noise.”
Of course both Serhan and Dalli defend their work and insist that they themselves are perfectly able to reproduce their results, they now even issued a preprint to prove that. In fact, Dalli even found out how to treat COVID-19 with his fictional elusive SPMs, so show some gratitude!
Dalli also owns a company named Resolomics, a QMUL spin-off, here its archived website because the original isn’t working anymore. Jesmond Dalli is listed as “Founder, Director, and Chief Scientific Officer”, Mauro Perretti, who insisted in Science that “SPMs exist, they have been characterized in multiple ways, they have been synthesized, and they are active” is listed as “Founder, Director, and Chairman of Scientific Advisory Board”.
The company advertises:
“LMScan™ is a novel, functional biomarker discovery platform for rapid analysis of pro-resolving mechanisms in inflammatory diseases
LMScan™ determines the identity and concentrations of bioactive lipid mediators in biological samples. This enables the characterization of novel ‘signatures’, with powerful diagnostic and prognostic value, as well as those associated with response to therapy. It underpins the company’s growing portfolio of lipid mediator ‘signatures’ (LMS) or ‘fingerprints’ as Companion Diagnostics (CDx).”
And they offer a therapy:
“ResoCell™, is a proprietary cell-based therapeutic platform which enables reprogramming of patient cells to limit inflammatory diseases.”
In this regard, Dalli wrote several months ago in an email:
“The technology we are proposing as part of ResoCell will be an autologous cell therapy whereby we are aiming to reprogram the patient’s own cells by leveraging the biology of endogenous molecules. The technology will not involve genetic manipulation. This is a novel approach which has not yet been employed elsewhere and the manuscript detailing the pre-clinical proof of concept studies we have performed is currently in review and we are presently addressing reviewers comments. Therefore I am afraid I am not in a position to share this with you at this stage. We are aiming to resubmit by mid/end of January and we hope that the manuscript will be accepted soon after since the comments we received were positive. At that stage I would be delighted to share the publication with you if it would still be of interest.
I am sorry I cannot provide any further detail at this stage. We are still in the process of developing this technology and we are hoping to be able to reach clinical trial stage in the next 2-3 years.”
Let us pray for Dalli’s business that the QMUL research misconduct investigation will not interfere with his plans. Oh dear, the university already deleted this press release, where Dalli and Perretti offered their proprietary “SPM and SPM-based therapeutics” to treat the coronavirus infection.
Russia’s War on Ukraine
Antivaxxery and antisemitism
For those who still think that russia is a civilized country we should be friends with. This is a 11 May 2022 press release from the russian Ministry of Murder Defence, continuing on their favourite topic of obsession: the Ukrainian bioweapons genetically designed to specifically attack the russian master-race using Bandera-trained waterfowl and bats. You laugh, but the russian populace laps it up and cries for a total genocide of everyone identifying as Ukrainian and a total nuclear war against the rest of the russophobic world.
Here it goes, translated from russian:
“The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation continues to study materials on the implementation of the military biological programs of the United States and its NATO allies on the territory of Ukraine. […]
It should be noted that the leaders of the Democratic Party are the ideologists of the military biological activities of the United States in Ukraine.
Thus, through the executive authorities of the United States, a legislative framework was formed to finance military biological research directly from the federal budget. Under state guarantees, funds were raised from non-governmental organizations controlled by the leadership of the Democratic Party, including the investment funds of the Clintons, Rockefellers, Soros, Biden.”
For those unaware: the billionaire philanthropist George Soros is routinely used in such cases as a stand-in for “Jewish Capital” or “The Jews” in general. Not really surprising after sergei lavrov and his foreign ministry recently unleashed a full-throated antisemitic attack, insisting Hitler was Jewish and accusing the Jews of masterminding the Holocaust.
And you sure recall how at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic russia sought to discredit “western” vaccines to push their own fraudulent trash named Sputnik V?
Well, listen to the russian ministry briefing:
“Large pharmaceutical companies are involved in this scheme, including Pfizer, Moderna, Merck, as well as Gilead, a US military-affiliated company. American experts are working on testing new medicines bypassing international safety standards. As a result, Western companies are significantly reducing the costs of implementing research programs and gaining significant competitive advantages.”
All these conspired to produce anti-russian bioweapons in Ukraine, as the press release explains. Here some slap in the stupid faces of the Putinversteher and faux-pacifists in Germany:
“The German leadership decided to start implementing the National Biosafety Program independent of Washington in 2013. Within the framework of this Program, 12 countries are involved, including Ukraine.
On the German side, the Program involves the Institute of Microbiology of the German Armed Forces (Munich), the Robert Koch Institute (Berlin), the Löffler Institute (Greifswald) and the Nocht Institute of Tropical Medicine (Hamburg).
New documents reveal that only in the period from 2016 to 2019, military epidemiologists from the Institute of Microbiology of the Bundeswehr took out three and a half thousand samples of blood serum from citizens living in 25 regions of Ukraine.”
Jewish Nazi money used to bleed the oppressed russians in Ukraine, a perfectly reasonable theory for the average russian slurping vodka from a teacup in front of TV.
And then the Poles, together with the Pentagon and Ukrainians, infected russian children (in the occupied fascist pseudo-state of “Luhansk People’s Republic”, short LNR):
“Thus, materials were studied that testify to the deliberate use in 2020 of the causative agent of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis to infect the population of the Slavyanoserbsky district of the LPR.
Leaflets, made in the form of counterfeit banknotes, were infected with the causative agent of tuberculosis and distributed among minors in the village of Stepovoye. The organizers of this crime took into account the peculiarities of the behavior of children who have a habit of “putting everything in their mouths” and taking food with unwashed hands.”
The article also describes how russian orcs army found out about Americans torturing russian-speaking psychiatric patients in Kharkiv, and “the use of Mariupol as a regional center for the collection and certification of the cholera pathogen.”
This all is not an evil phantasy, I wish it was. The russian propagandists don’t make such things up, rather they just attribute russia’s own crimes to others, as they did every time they were exposed for murder, torture and rape of civilians in Ukraine. Terrorising psychiatry patients, killing children? Check, russian soldiers did all that in Ukraine. In fact, they specifically trap and kill children, maybe not yet with tuberculosis, but with toys stuffed with explosives. Cholera in Mariupol? Coming soon, because the utterly destroyed city with around 150,000 starving inhabitants inhabitants lacks food, electricity, gas, medicines and most importantly water, and now that the summer arrived, epidemics will start to spread and kill many thousands more, to add to at least 25 thousands already killed in Mariupol by the russian aggression.
The world mostly watches on as Mariupol became a giant Nazi-style ghetto, where nobody can get out and where people only receive some food for digging up and burying those whom russians already murdered. A huge concentration camp was set up in the suburbs of Mariupol where thousands people russia hasn’t decided yet on whether to kill or to let go are being tortured. The only way for Mariupol survivors not to be shot on the street is to pass such so-called “filtration camps”. There, a kind of Nazi-style selection ramp is run: those deemed to identify as Ukrainian are sent off to be tortured or executed right away. Like in Nazi Germany’s ghettos and KZs, hunger and infectious diseases will be killing many thousands of innocent civilians.
The russian press release also openly announces an attack with chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine, in their own twisted style:
“The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation has information about the preparation of provocations with the aim of accusing the Russian Armed Forces of using weapons of mass destruction, followed by an investigation according to the “Syrian scenario”, which allows fabricating the necessary evidence and appointing the perpetrators.”
For many decades, the russian nation was trained to celebrate war, to believe every fascist lie about “the others”, to hate everyone different from them, and to derive sadistic pleasure from destroying those they perceive as inferior or just weaker. We in the democratic West decided to make these monsters our friends and we even now finance their war and genocide.

- Unsurprisingly, in the court trial in Stockholm, the deadly surgeon Paolo Macchiarini (now with a ponytail) insists to have been merely trying to save terminally ill, dying patients with his experimental plastic trachea transplants (not true, their lives were definitely not in danger). His other line of his defence is that he just a humble member of team (which he tyrannically led), basically just following orders (from himself).
- In this regard, instead of tweets, some YouTube videos! Do you recall Macchiarini’s acolyte, student and right hand man from Germany, who was involved in almost all those deadly trachea transplants, Philipp Jungebluth? The one who sued me in Berlin, where the judges proved particularly crooked? Well, in his home town of Wolfenbüttel, this ambitious surgeon and some fellow doctors set up a music band called “Doc in the Fog“, and he is the singer there! Will Jungebluth sing at Macchiarini’s next wedding?
- “According to research published last year, the leading countries for stem cell tourism are the US, China, India, Thailand and Mexico.” (Guardian)
- “People often believe that these scientists are bullies despite being star academics. Their misbehaviors are attributed to an unfortunate decoupling between being a good scientist and being a decent person. However, academics who have experienced bullying often describe patterns that suggest a different explanation entirely: bullying is a means for mediocre scientists to rise to the top. Some star academics reached their position because they are bullies, not in spite of it. […] Bullying behaviors – including abuse of power, mobbing and devaluing the achievements of others – sabotage the careers of their targets, effectively removing competition from the academic environment. Once they rise to the top, academics can use the same strategies to promote their ‘chosen ones’, and become untouchable.” Täuber, S., Mahmoudi, M. How bullying becomes a career tool. - Well, Professor Byrne, maybe there are so many miRNA retractions because the papermill sleuth Smut Clyde focussed on miRNA fraud? But you get his credit, as usual.
